Safety & security film FAQs
No. Security film does not make glass unbreakable. Its role is to help hold broken glass together, and properly designed systems may delay the creation of an opening after the glass has been broken.
Not necessarily. Film thickness is only one factor. Glass type, framing, attachment method, opening size and the performance objective all affect how a glazing system performs.
An attachment or edge-retention system is used in certain applications to help secure filmed glass to the surrounding frame. It is separate from the window film itself.
Many film systems are designed for retrofit installation on existing glazing, but the glass and frame should be evaluated for the intended application.
Standard safety and security window film should not be represented as making ordinary glazing bulletproof. Ballistic protection requires a glazing assembly specifically designed and tested for that purpose.
